L5-S1 Anterior Discectomy and Fusion Procedure - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This stock medical exhibit shows an L5-S1 anterior discectomy and fusion procedure in a series of illustrations. The first illustration is an orientation to the pre-operative condition. It shows a sagittal view of the lumbar spine with the L5-S1 intervertebral disc impinging on the cauda equina of the spinal cord. The second illustration shows an incision in the lower back through which bone graft is harvested from the right posterior iliac crest. The third illustration shows an incision made into the abdomen to expose the L5-S1 disc space. The fourth illustration shows a rongeur removing the L5-S1 disc. The fifth illustration shows a drill drilling holes between L5 and S1 to make room for implants. The sixth illustration shows the insertion of the implants and bone graft into the holes.
